Valley’s interventional pain management specialists collaborate with patients to relieve, reduce, or manage pain and improve their overall quality of life through minimally invasive techniques specifically designed to treat painful conditions. Valley Pain Consultants also strives to help patients return to their everyday activities quickly, and to minimize their reliance on medications.
Valley’s providers are highly skilled in treating patients suffering from lower back pain, upper back pain, neck pain, failed back surgery syndrome and many other chronic pain conditions.
Following a thorough medical history and physical examination, Valley’s pain management physicians offer patients a broad spectrum of treatments that can be used to improve their conditions, including, but not limited to, the following treatment options:
Epidural injections (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, caudal) use anesthetic and steroid medications injected into the epidural space to relieve pain or diagnose a specific condition.
Discogram/Discography provides an “inside” look into the discs to determine if they are the source of a patient’s pain. This procedure involves the use of a dye that is injected into a disc and then examined using x-ray or CT Scan.
Facet joint injections are used to determine if the facet joints are the source of pain; these injections can also provide pain relief.
Intrathecal Pump Implant is surgically implanted to deliver pain medications, including Prialt® in order to deliver medication directly into the central nervous system.
Intrathecal Baclofen®, is an excellent treatment option used to manage severe spasticity of cerebral or spinal origin.
Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty are procedures to relieve pain for patients diagnosed with compression fractures of the vertebrae due to osteoporosis, trauma, cancer or benign tumors.
Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression (MILD) percutaneous lumbar decompression laminectomy, is a procedure to reduce pain in patients suffering from Lumbar Spinal Stenosis.
Nerve, root, and medial branch blocks are injections performed to determine if a specific spinal nerve root is the source of pain. Blocks also can be used to reduce inflammation and pain.
Percutaneous Discectomy/Nucleoplasty is a procedure in which tissue is removed from the disc in order to decompress and relieve pressure.
Radiofrequency Ablation (Rhizotomy) is a procedure in which pain signals are “turned off” through the use of heated electrodes that are applied to specific nerves that carry pain signals to the brain.
Spinal cord stimulation involves the use of electrical impulses that are used to block pain from being perceived in the brain. Peripheral nerve stimulation is also indicated for treatment of pain due to nerve injury, irritation or inflammation, as well as for treatment of occipital neuralgia, headaches, migraines and nerve entrapment syndrome.
Valley Pain Consultants routinely prescribes other treatments such as, medications, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and lifestyle modification (such as exercise, diet, and smoking cessation) to further enhance these procedures.
